Daemonheart all of these issues have been discussed throughout the last 2 years of beta including payment models. As yet there has been no clarification on the number of characters per account, but as stated too few and you damage potential sales and too many you damage the economy, I am sure the dev’s have their own ideas. There is no way to stop people running multiple accounts but this is a seperate issue to alt characters on the same account.

There will be a free trial to Dawntide as well as no box cost, to encourage people to try the game. That being said I would urge the dev team to link account creation to a credit/debit card to stop people generating hundreds of accounts, and then only take payment if people log in after the free period has expired. This forces players to be “registered” to take up the free trial, and limits players to one account per credit card, also helping to stop people running multibox set-ups.

@Kaclys: how does having “ultra-rare” pets not fit with a sandbox? Some creatures may be rarer than others to find in the wild (like in real life) and some will always be harder to tame.

Your statement about “some ranking harder to achieve than others” totally coincides with the idea of either rare-to-find pets or rare-to-tame pets.

Maybe I’m missing something about what you said though.

Taming monsters or npc’s that are not pure animal in nature could be put into a different skill tree, such as a necromancer taming undead or a wizard dealing with elementals. It would be a cool way to offer a variety of pet types other than just animals.

sry, i meant 20 in any skill max, if the dont buy higher limit(with time limit)

for me f2p is always like, come and look around, test as much as u want and pay&play when u are rdy.
so for me f2p would be enough with skill limit 20 (or maybe 40 if the devs feel generous)

and yes i see the alt problem, but theres not really much u can do against
cause only 1 char per subscribtion is way to hard to sell.
and even if theres only 1 char per sub, the must make it a lot cheaper. cause no one is gonna buy that when there are lots of sandbox games around with better graphic, same gameplay and more chars per account.
And nope, Dawntide wont survive with only a few hardcores like u.

So all in all theres nothing u or the devs can do to prevent crafting alts.
except making the crafting and skilltraining so time consuming that no one wants another char.
but that would scare away lots of gamers so also no option.

Having ultra-rare pets simply doesn’t fit well with the logistics of a sandbox. Ultimately, all animals/monsters should be fairly easy to obtain, with some ranking harder to achieve than others of course, but they absolutely should suffer perma-death.

Being able to tame the most powerful creature in the game shouldn’t be an option either, as this would be the ideal PvE (and possibly PvP) cookie-cutter build that would remain ubiquitous in many games (like UO). Having heavily toned down versions of a monster would work to an extent, but personally, I would just like for the animal taming to stick with… animals. Having aggressive type animals (bears, wolves, etc) should always remain an option, but I think we’d be crossing the line a little bit by being able to tame monsters.

Well I have just recently heard about this game and am really excited about it. Like niburu and many other people I’m sure I have played Darkfall Online and Really enjoyed the combat system and the political aspect of the game that not only was very engaging and entertaining in game, but outside of the game too. When i found out in the post above that the combat system would not be like darkfall I was a little dissapointed. But if Dawntide will be a tab target system I can give it a shot as long as it does not seem to “WOWish”

In the Sandbox genre I personally have noticed that many of the people that enjoy what it sandbox offers are normaly against anything like the themepark games like WoW. I am not saying that Dawn Tide is a themepark game but if it uses the Tab Targeting system then I believe it will turn away many of the people who play sandbox game because they will associate its combat system with a “themepark game” and not even give the game a chance.

Dawntide has many of the things that people look for in a sandbox that I can see so far such as diverse carfting and most importantly the ability to make and feel like your actions matter when it comes to pvp or the supporting of it.

Also I would like to say that I agree 100% with Niburu when he talks about how darkfall and mortal did not fail because of the combat system but either because of the engine (that Mortal online should have never used) or the lack of dev interaction with the development of the game.

I am sorry for the length of this post but I wanted to get all the things that I look to see and hope to enjoy in the future of this game and no matter what their choice I will hope to see you guys in the near future in the open beta and enjoy the game.

@Daemonheart
I did, but maybe you should clarify….
Do you mean 20% of the 700 skill cap? in which case what I said holds true, that still allows you to have 32423453215 alts each with 100 in a skill and the perks to optimize all the various uses for all the skills.

Do you mean the maximum a f2p player can get in any skill is 20 skill? in which case they will be useless and only able to craft the most basic of items, be fodder and be annoying/obnoxious.

Do you mean skill gain will be at 20% of the rate? In which case they can have everything, and I am 100% against it

Yes if a player is willing to pay for multiple subscriptions they can accomplish the same thing. There is no way to avoid that, but at least it is going to cost them a lot to circumvent trade with other players. Please find and read the thread where number of characters that will be allowed is discussed at length. It will illistrate how many feel about this issue, as well as my personal suggestions to ensure they would need to pay for an account for every single crafting alt.

@stereoled
The monthly price isn’t any cheaper, but they are proposing a lifetime membership that is a real bargain.

Subscription sounds about right for this game but I hope you consider making the price more affordable than that of the more or less mainstream MMOs like WoW, Rift, EVE etc.. Something like perhaps 7-8€ a month? I know Dawntide isn’t just a WoW clone but it’ll still be hard to compete with the bigger games if the monthly fee is as high as theirs

@GMPathy
those economical issues arent ones in EVE or?
also as i said u would buy a different look for your creation, not an item.
So u could craft 1000 pirate hats if youre funny :)
to be true i didnt even play dawntide yet, cause everytime in the yaer i come around here its down ^^ but i dont think basic buildingplans are lootable or?
for me it sounds more like something u learn and then u can craft it, for me theres no sense in getting a new plan for each hat,chair,whatever

@Draconian
as i said u would have an skillcap with f2p, so either u buy higher cap at shop or pay monthly

also i dont see monthly payment preventing crafting alts, or do u see that?
i mean 15€ or 30€ per month isnt that much, so if i would plan to invest enough time and it would give me a huge enough bonus i wouldnt be scared off by 15€ more or less.

First and foremost would be the ability to easily circumvent the skill cap by creating multiple alts allowing you to produce anything.

Then you add in that item shop really does not mix with a full loot, heavy crafting based game. There is no income to be made from the F2P players.

There is a simple solution to this for players that do not like a monthly subscription model, you buy a lifetime subscription giving you unlimited access to everything in game. If you would like me to break down exactly why cash shop payments would not be suitable for this game I can, but it is more multiple issues rather than any one single problem.

The primary reason is that for players to WANT to play there should be fairness and equality in a sandbox game, adding any form of microtransaction system will mean this is impossible to maintain. Even having “fluff” items you will cause economical issues, and people would be paying for items that suffer decay and can be looted.

The best and fairest system in Dawntide for the player, developers and investors is a subscription model. I can talk at length regarding further reasons and issues that make cash shop and microtransactions unsuitable for this game but I will save you all the wall of text.

@Draconan
what problems do u see with lots of anonymus accounts?
its not as if they would have maximum skills without paying (personally i would limit f2p to 20%), so bot-ing wont be a real prob.
also even with f2p i dont think Dawntide will be big enough to attract goldseller..

@Washington44t
hmm yeah, could lead to some competition.
but i dont think everyone would favor the payshop style over the standart.
Cause taste differs and at some point the alternative style wouldnt have that unique feeling anymore, especially if u see 50% with said pirate hat.
So then the standart hat would become more unique.

but yes valid argument, makes me think Monthly should get Everything released in the shop.

I don’t think a cash shop would work in Dawntide and pray they don’t try to shoehorn one in. The problem is that crafting is meant to be a big part of the game. Forcing crafters to compete with “cool-lookin” items from the cash shop will ruin the player-driven economy.
Subscription is the way to go in my view. I think Draconian is right (except that I’m still following The Secret World).

I have dabbled with EVE on a trial account but have never really been a fan of more futuristic games. Many of my real life friends have been playing for years, and my brother first introduced me to the genre many years ago when he joined EVE in beta.

From many many discusions over the years I would say the biggest attraction is the endless and unpredictable nature of the game. There is no winner or loser, as huge alliances have grown and been toppled over the years. Each player is a tiny cog in the machine that is the world and that however small the impact is, you are making an impact.

Hi there

ive read a lot about this and it seems there are a lot of people who Only want f2p Or monthly.
So why not both?
It would solve some problems and let the players choose their way freely.

problems and pro´s of f2p:
either low income for the devs or high cost for players, ive never seen a balanced one.
generates a lot of new players without cost for merchandising
high fluctation, not much tend to stay cause the costs are most of the time to high
(some req 100€+ per month to stay in top tier) but the new ones hold the server population stable

problems and pro´s of monthly
stable income for the devs and medium cost for the players.
not much new players without heavy merchandising
players stay long with the game but sooner or later population dwindles and the server(s) are empty
generally 3-4 months after game release the decline starts

so you choose most of the time between death or devil..
but i think u can combine them and it will work out great.

so i would love to see f2p AND monthly as options with an item store.
And before the crying starts!
Item store sells different looks.
like a new building plan for leather hat but its an, say pirate hat or whatever.
and other fluff items
and also some things for f2p costumers like more charslots, higher skillcap(timelimited and not better then monthly), building permission(timelimited) and such

if u pay monthly u get FULL game access and say 5bucks and or discount for item store per month

So now u ask why doesnt monthly get all the new items in the store for free?
Simple, Devs need to live from something and if u get a discount and 5bucks u should be able to buy one item per month.
If u want more invest or chose from the new itemlooks only the things u realy want.

So u still mad at me and the store concept?
Look at it from this side, u may have to pay for one item from time to time if u want all the looks
but at least u have something to chose from, there are dozens of mmo out there with no new things in years.
(and really come on say 2-5€ per month extra isnt that much)

So this is what i would love to see comin, cause it would give us the option to pay monthly.
And have a lot of new players and have new itemlooks from time to time.

Dawntide seems to be alot like Eve online now that I have taken a look at Eve for the first time. Not sure if we have any Eve players here, but, they must be doing something right to have 30,000 players online at one time, all in one server. I think its the huge sandbox universe that makes it a huge hit, I can only hope dawntide does the same, only, it would be a world :P

Also, to the Eve players here, what have you always liked about that game?

It is pretty easy macro able that you have one group leader and the group focus down target after target without real skill. It is much harder to coordinate the whole group with command to attack one target.

@Grimnir I’m quite taken in by the game, and it seems like a friendly community, and such as Pathy has stated before it certainly has the tools to help support a roleplay community. I’d be happy to contribute to the project!

@Pathy At this stage that’s pretty much natural.. :) I wouldn’t worry too much about it. But I thank you for your interest ;D
