I haven’t played it online, only tinkered around in single player building little underground “houses”

I wouldn’t mind doing that online where others can poke around as well. It seems like it would be interesting to explore other folks creations.

I suck hard at pvp so my server will not have pvp.

LordWiese – Yes , you can actually pvp in minecraft just take some armors , sword , bow , but it’s pretty unbalanced coz person who has potions will win most of the time… and I think minecraft is great game for pvp coz it has – ABSOLUTELY FULL LOOT PVP , OPEN WORLD PVP , AND PLAYER CONTROLED MAP.

Yeah with some mods u can make MineCraft into a decent sandbox mmorpg.
Simply take Mcmmo or Hero plugin for levling
add Cash plugin, Chestshops or Signshops for Trade (hell theres even an Auction plugin out there^^)
Falsebook and such for more and better Redstone
And if u really want to get crazy take the Sprout client and make your own blocks and crafting recipes.

dont forget to add somthing for protection, or your players will get griefed the whole time
so either whitelist + auth or use things like Precious Stone for anti griefing.

btw
Pickaxe.de is an nice german rpg server with pvp and such
so take a look at it if ya want, atm the server is in open beta but the map with v1.1 will start in about 1-3 weeks :)
