Is my eyes deceiving me or does the quality of a component not affect the final piece? More specifically I’ve been leveling a weapon smith/carpenter and I’ve noticed that the handle quality doesn’t affect the final product at all. Only the tool and the ingots seem to have an effect. I seem to recall reading something about this, but the thread eludes me at present. |

You are correct, currently the only things that affect the quality of the finished item is the ore qual and the tool used to craft. I am pretty sure that further down the line all component stats will be used to calculate the final product quality. Even now there is still scope to improve quality by taking things to the extreme, try crafting a gleamsteal BS hammer, then use this to make another and you will notice your latest BS hammer is slightly improved still. Then when crafting your weapons you will get that small increase to the end product. When you add in craft specific perks you can dramtically increase the output quality as well as reducing fail rates, so the earlier you improve your tool quality the better. |

Yeah that’s what I figured. In terms of how quality is calculated Dawntide crafting is very similar to SWG |

Resources …. Please do not read if you are the kind that likes to discover things on your own.. Oak trees, I have not looked for them until tonight. Found my first one on Pirate Island , the little island in the middle of all the main Islands. At least this is what I came across.. On North Vynn I found most of the lower quality trees , but also found maple and I am guessing Sequoia trees but at skill level 66 I could not chop down this one. |

there are many oak trees on starter island in fact there is one in town you start in, lets not send new folks off to PVP areas or places they are not able to deal with. if they dont need to go there , next the trees your talking about up north are called myrtles to gather without a fail takes a skill of 100 lumberjacking there are many of these trees however do to some recent patches there is only like 4 or so that you can get to because of fall threw cells, you fall threw threw the earth and play heck trying to get out let hope the nest pacth can fix some of this oh and for what its worth the myrtle is only .05 better than the sequoia found on starter island certianly not worth the risk to a starting player. last but not least the quality of any tree can very with the age of a tree not all oaks are 100 quality, this applies to all trees |

Also worth mentioning lumberjack perks can affect the weight and quality of the wood you harvest. If you would like to publish data there is a wiki being created, which is probably a more appropriate place for such information as its easer to browse. Also in future tool quality will affect the harvest quality of materials. |

Well gentlemen while I do appreciate your input , I think I will continue to post my information. If the Devs feel I am doing something I shouldn’t then I will follow any advice they may post. catnips your information was helpful , and is welcome..but I need to say I did not promote new players going to pvp areas. I am just going to post what I find and the general area of where. As I did when I said I finally found silver on East Vynn , though it was a small amount. I don’t fully understand the randomization that the Devs are using for the ore , but I will figure it out. But lets not over do it on the pvp areas at the moment , a new player just needs to be careful. I have explored at least 90% of Dawntide now , and rarely run into other players so if they swing wide around the bad guys , spiders ,etc they should be ok. And again this is beta so whats it really matter. Your not keeping anything you create , build or find anyway. Lets not forget what a open beta is Tablix , I don’t want you to think your advice is not appreciated , it is. How ever I do not see anything wrong with posting what I find here. And no where in my post did I say this is written in stone , or that this is the only way it is. What I post is simply one toons adventure. I just ask that I be respected for my time , and my point of view. My brother and I are taking screen shots , measuring distance , in time that is , how long it takes to swim from point a to b, or how long it takes to run from point a to b. we are taking notes on how long , and how much material it takes to level this or that.. just doing everything we can to gather information. Back to posting some where else , we are in the process of putting a community website together, and when we have enough info we will go live with it. Just no big rush there is still much to do, and a great deal of time to do it, this game is no where near ready to go live… Would enjoy working with you guys as well , instead of at each others throats , ( a little exaggerated there but you both know what I mean) So once again thank you for your advice , just don’t be upset if I don’t follow it to the letter, lol. With regards to harvest skills there is a simple corralation between skill level and what you can harvest, pear can be harvested from 0 skill but with fails, right up to Myrtle which requires 100 skill to avoid failures I would have to question this , unless I don’t understand what your saying. As to the tree (Myrtle) I was able to chop on but not harvest. It didn’t just tell me I failed to harvest it, but it told me my skill was not high enough indicating no chance of harvest at this level, 66. |

Farouc, you are correct in your findings, you can attempt to gather/chop/harvest below the skill level required to actually get the resource, you will still get the skill gain associated with an attempt but you will not always get any yeild. I use the word harvest to explain gathering of a resource be it stone herbs or wood rather than specify the individual skill. I would recommend training skills on things where you can guarentee gathering some materials you can use, otherwise you are possibyl wasting the opportunity to train a crafting skill. @ Herc, the reason I suggested posting on the wiki is that this site could very easily get clogged with pages of data that would be very hard to search. When you consider there are 100′s of different items of varying weights, qual. any type not to mention conductivity, all variable due to perks then you will see the mass of data you are trying collate is going to quickly overtake discusion on the forums. There are several testers trying to update the wiki and build it for the community, and you may be duplicating each others work. The dev’s are still updating the forums, adding features for faction use and other tools, I just dont want to see you wasting your time and effort. I appreciate and encourage peoples dedication to helping others and the community as a whole I was only offering you a solution to creating your own pages when the wiki is still under construction. There is still lots of data missing regarding different resource types, mob spawns, trade skills so you could be very valuable addition to the team already working on it. With regards to mapping the world, the dev’s plan to update the map in game “in the future” so hopefully this will help you with your research. |

Hey bro ( Farouc) see your up early . Hello Tablix , thanks for the information , I am sure my brother didn’t mean anything negative , its just that we don’t feel like we have been very welcome by the forum community. But no big thing. As to the wiki we have looked at it. And may decide to help with it, We still have much to learn about the game. As well as we enjoy doing our own thing , we make no secret of that. Just meaning we are putting together a community website of our own. We both see much potential in this virtual world. And are looking at it as a future hobby where much time will be invested. With regards to mapping the world, the dev’s plan to update the map in game “in the future” so hopefully this will help you with your research. I have heard everything from the world is going to change to well ??? I can see more land mass being added , some more islands , and polish; and then who knows if the game kicks butt at launch..:) And I think they have created a beautiful virtual world, hope to see more… |

Just for info, at launch of open beta there simply wasnt a west vynn hence the lack of interactive objects now, this was only added about 2-3 months ago. I think you will see large improvements to west vynn over the next few patches. The way things are mapped currently I dont think you will find the world changing in its shape and structure, that being said i dont see why the continents and islands cant me moved around or rotated etc as it would just be a case of restructuring the cells, this island design is very useful in that manner. No two continents share a cell, meaning there is usually a blank cell between each. This could allow the dev’s to pick up and drop entire continents (existing) where they choose. I may be wrong on that but it would add some spice come release if nobody new the layout of the world. As always, happy to offer any advice you may require. |

Thanks Tab, I too think the island idea is unique and may offer more flexibility than other games have had. I think it is a great concept. But I think where it will come in handy is in the expansion when needed. All in game objects have coordinates to which they are set too. along with pages of code to determine how they function in game. static objects , roaming objects etc, I am guessing I am not saying anything you don’t already know. However that being said the only way I can see this game being different when they go live is if they have an instance of this world running behind closed doors so to speak. But thats another can of worms, lol. And being this is a small dev team I doubt it. What I would think possible at launch would be a few more islands possibly still under construction , and of course polish of existing content.. Don’t get me wrong I think it is a great game, very unique in certain ways , beautiful art for a MMO, a well thought out crafting system, with unlimited possibilities. Oh and bye the way I am much happier that we are all communicating on a civilized level , thanks Herc |
