Hello all,

I’ve been following Dawntide since Early 2010 but have never been able to get my client to run properly. I recently was able to log in and I played a long time yesterday. I have to say I had a great time in game interacting with some people and had an awesome time raiding an NPC settlement last night with 2 other players. We all know there are things that aren’t perfect in game, but I wanted to maybe collect some thoughts and memories on what you have truly enjoyed in your time in game. I know I’d love to read them and I think we could stand for a little more positivity on these forums. So if you have any good memories or something awesome that has happened recently in game please let us know!

I have a fair few good experiences, mainly before becoming a GM.

Anyone that remembers the bank forge is a veteran :D
Killing 1 player multibox mining afk, 3 kills in 1 minute, I am not always nice.
Building my first boat was certainly fun.
Visiting West Vynn after 2 months and noticing the capital had appeared.
Spending weeks working out the systems for ore nodes with a few associates only to have Wiz change the system 3 days after publishing our findings, which I have never been forgiven for by some people.
The first time I saw the Frost Wyrm.
Killing Grog the Giant about 50 times in a day when the respawn timer was broken.
Many fine debates on the forums and in games with my nemisis.
Helping make the group combat sections of the demo, although it was far from perfect it was the first time I had been in a group in game for nearly a year.
Watching one of the Dev’s show off some character models that are still not in game. (mentioning no names here)
The first piece of object art in game, huge spiral staircase, that has still not been bettered in my opinion.
Seeing the new ship models in game for the first time.
The waterfall in the capital and the dust on the roads blowing in the wind.
Shadows of birds flying above move accross the floor.
Building my own townhouse.
Finaly making a full set of gleamsteal plate armour after about a week of gathering.
Working with Catnips has been a pleasure and a pain over the last year or more but I would say its got to be a positive in the long run :D
Finding some of the most generous and friendly people on the internet in the same place, the community here and the dev’s have all been truely awesome.

Thats a big list of good things, and probably why I am still here. I can see past a glitch and a bug, work around a temp issue and see the possibilities are far greater than the issues. Maybe I am not your average gamer as I live in beta’s but it takes a lot of patience and money to get a game this far in the developement cycle, so however things go in the future the team making it have earned my respect.

Thank you for that post. We have a really great start to this thread. I hope more people feel like you do GMPathy. :) I can personally vouch for how great the community is. Everyone answers questions and talks about all kinds of things with all the newer and visiting players. I didn’t see any anger or bitterness in game yesterday.

I never will forgive you for that post, but prolly not for the reason you believe, yes because wiz changed how nodes worked, but because he wasted time on doing so, that could have been better spent in fixing more important things in the game. as far as Iam concerned he could put it back exactly how it was at first, the number of nodes and how they worked and game would be alot better off for it, I bet he doesnt even remember how it was to be honest.
It was one thing that you needed a team effort for wich made it a great thing, now nothing needs a team effort, what a pity.
I would also have to agree with things you have listed.
There have been many UPS in the game but sadly many DOWNS as well. And I find the funnest part of the downs is, they for the most part, where suggested by people that dont even play the game very much, or wrose people that dont even play it at all, but my favorite are the ones suggested by people that actuly leave the game after they get what they asked for and didnt like it once they got it. As I have said before this should tell someone something, but doesnt seem to.

edit: and the forge at the bank, I didnt do it, and you cant prove a thing ))

I’d have to say the good experiences have been the people I’ve met in game, in the forums and in IRC. I live in a very small town (How small it is? It’s so small that our telephone book is on the Welcome sign at the entrance to the town :) ) so meeting people who share a common appreciation for this type of game is priceless.

Some more memorable moments in game. Almost finding out the hard way that my character (at the time) wasn’t quite the bad a$$ I thought it was as I ran my character towards a town with 2 trolls on it’s hinnie. Exploring West Vynn and loosing two hours of RT without realizing it. Teaching my dog to right click when I was levelling my Lumberjack. I was at the keyboard, try as I might, with all kinds of treats, I just couldn’t teach him to move from tree to tree which I found strange because in RL, he does this very well. The one time I engaged in a PvP fight with another player. It was so polite. It reminded me of that swordfight between Mandy Patikin and Cary Ewes in the movie “The Princess Bride”.

Haha what a great post Ag! The Princess Bride is one of my all time favorite movies so I know exactly what you are talking about. I was laughing pretty hard thinking about your dog trying to use a mouse and keyboard. hahaa
