I think in the future we will see many forms of government in the various factions that will come and go. Some will have prosperity if the members can get along, but how long can that last? Republics have always had much prosperity! Why? because you have a group of people or representatives if you will, that represent the people. But why not just let the people vote on everything!? I mean that would make them happy right! NO! I think if factions are going to function properly they need people to speak for them on maters of state inside the faction. Factions should form councils with representatives elected by the members of the faction. For instance if you have a faction of 100 members divide them into groups of 20. For every 20 people you will have 1 representative. If you have 5 council members and the leader of the faction voting on things if will save much time and will make the faction more productive and efficient!

maybe, but I ran a guild in EQ for over 7 and a half years, it ran by all members had a vote or say. it grew to the largest guild on any server, and did many things other guilds only dreamed of doing. funny but ever since then I keep hearing how that could never work. heck as far as i know the guild is still there and has spread to many many other games, the simple truth is any form of goverment is a good one as long as its leaders ar not corrupt.

You might be right, but a republic in a game is not like one in the real world. Well it realy is just to as establish a sense of freedom and pride in a guild or faction.

Republicans, democrats, liberals, C.R.A.P.P. (conservative reform aliance progression party) NDP (new democratic party)…real life republics just don’t have the same appeal a fantasy game republic does; but that’s neither here nor there, i believe that republics ARE the way to go

i am a conservative as well, but within the game i would like to see partys will original ideas. What works in the real world may not work in the game world so you have to adjust your political beliefs to the how the game works. This being said Republics will not work the same way republics like america may. Game republics will look more like classical republics such as (Rome) or (Venice). If you ask why? well in guilds or factions you have to have permanent leaders, so it will be a mixture of a republic and a monarchy. A republic is also the most fair form of government, even if you do not agree with other members you can know that they want is best for you guild or faction.

unless they are a traitor!

Spies within political heirachies can cause havoc and hide with great success, in my experience a well run communistic autocracy is the best system, the problem is the person at the top must be responsible enough to not be overcome with greed or the power of the position. All in a gaming environment of course, having been both dictator and slave it can be a very fruitful and beneficial system for all involved. Sharing the spoils is the key to running a succesful system like this, and keeping the ego’s and efforts of the slaves in ballance. A good leader can do great things, a bad leader can cause complete chaos, this is why in real life this governmental system does not flourish in the long term.

Too much voting in democracies causes arguments and rifts, decisions take too long to make, and regretfully will cost the organisation that competative edge of timing that is sometimes required in games where politics matters.

There was an interesting thread about politics in game a while back, not sure if it has been burried yet.

All IMO of course :D

dang GM well put, the communist way of goverment is by far the best thing going, however it is completely dependent on the leader if hes good it does well if hes not well in goes in the toilet. and since man as a rule can not seem to get over the greed factor. but iam sorry to say that also can apply to all fourms of goverment, even ours ((

I think it will work, most of the time game communities manage to do this even better then in real life! Might be awesome if the game would support this, but it should support some different kinds of republics. Communism (which is, I think, the most common form of internet-clans), and also well-functioning, capitalistic, states should be supported. I’ve played TribalWars, where clans are mainly democracies, and it worked there. I’ve also played (in fact i still do play) RuneScape, and there democracies, but also clans with just one leader, work. It might be usefull to have this as a faction-support, there are ranks already, but some more in-dept to a republic would be awesome!

P.S. Sorry if i made a grammar error, I’m not English. ;)

i dont wanna see this force or an actually implemented game mechanic it should be free will with some very basic mechanic as territory control and interguild/extraguild treaties. It’s nice to see how players form their own citiies and governances themselves
