Is there any chance that PvP will be not just turned off but removed completely from the game? I’m dying for an MMO that, for once, doesn’t have to worry about balancing PvP changes with PvE changes. MMORPGs are complex enough to design without having to balance two completely separate systems. |

Removing PvP from a Sandbox is juste the most horrible idea i heard this year (ok ok the year is still young…). To be fair i see what your point is but if you are looking for pure PvE game i think there is plenty of them out already, you should go for it instead of trying to change upcoming sandbox game. Myself i see no interest in pure PvE game, hope this one keep both of them (that the best, mix btw PvE and PvP population with hard restriction for pure murderer, risk vs reward etc etc). |

Karetyr I can say with almost 100% certainty that PVP will be part of the game mechanics. Having territorial wars and faction based politics as the driving force for gameplay, removing pvp would be taking the majority of the gameplay away. |

Outside of Asian grindfests, I have no knowledge of any pure PvE MMORPG currently on the market. Everything’s been tainted by PvP. If I’m incorrect, I’d love to hear it. |

I have no problem with going for a pure PvP experience, ala Mortal Online or Darkfall. My problem is with games that try to please both crowds. They invariably fail to some degree. |

Istaria – Chronicles of the Gifted is a pure PVE game. Its also a sandbox game. Problem, its broken, funding pulled at the end of development, forced released, killed the community. Its a grind fest besides, very little in the sense of “quests”. Having said all this, its still good looking after all the years, must of the major issues have been corrected and it was very ahead of its time at release, and you get to play a dragon…which sucks at first, but when you become an adult you can fly and very much a bad ass. There is your Pure PVE sandbox game. |

“I have no knowledge of any pure PvE MMORPG currently on the market.” Play on a god damn PvE server or something. There are tons of carebear games out there, don’t ruin this game. |

Wow Quark, that was just rude. None of your examples even make sense for his inquiry. He is looking for a game that has no trace of PvP in its design… every one of those do. He isn’t looking for a game without PvP he is looking for a game that hasn’t made design choices to accommodate class balance etc. in PvP which exists whether or not you play on a pvp server or ignore PvP aspects. Take a moment to breathe and realize that he is not trying to destroy your game, he is trying to find the game he wants. It will not be here but hopefully he will find it. @Karetyr: The only ones I can think of is FFXI and FFXIV. FFXI does have the strange sport thing but I don’t believe anything was ever changed about the classes as a result. |

Oh lord another PVP thread? LOTRO, in my opinion, is an amazing pve game, and I would hardly count “monster play” as pvp so i’d look there if i was you karetyr. Now let the 20 pages of rambling about pvp commence again! |

/waves to @Divayith If this is in relation to Dawntides mechanics I have no issue but if things stray too far it may be better to discuss them in a different thread with a different title. As Divay pointed out there are numerous threads discussing this topic already. @Karetyr you may get a good bunch of suggestions by asking on a more broad forum such as mmorpg.com or any number of gaming websites. I dont want to be dismissive or not help but I have been pretty focused on Dawntide for quite some time. There have been requests in the past for dedicated PVE servers but I have not heard any positive response from anyone in the dev team as their design brief is pretty strict regarding a single server at this stage. I do understand the desire for a PVE style sandbox game but designing a game that way needs to be done in isolation away from PVP mechanics, otherwise one playstyle will always dictate the other as you have noticed. Dawntide will have some PVE areas and content but I cannot give you any idea what percentage of the landmass will be PVE only or whether a complete PVE exitence will be possible. Maybe worth doing some reading here:- http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/forum/841/LFGame.html |

We lost more than half of the player base when PVP got turned off, no, we must have pvp, or I will leave as well. |

Well, as I said, that’s fine… but that means PvP will be the primary focus, right? The developers won’t have to worry about, say, balancing for raids? Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited about Dawntide, PvP or no. I’ve just seen way too many games be destroyed by poor balance and don’t want to see Dawntide suffer the same fate. Also, Quark… I’m glad these other folks are more indicative of the Dawntide community than you, kid. I won’t go any further than that. |

“Is there any chance that PvP will be not just turned off but removed completely from the game?” Also Karetyr, I’m coming from the darkfall forums. If this game somehow gets successful PVP, the forums will be filled up with people like me. |

“Also Karetyr, I’m coming from the darkfall forums. If this game somehow gets successful PVP, the forums will be filled up with people like me.” – One forums level of moderation does not always match another. Dawntides forums have always remained a place for constructive debate and friendly banter, and hopefully we can maintain that through the remainder of beta and into a live game. There is really no need for any “trash talk” or indeed criticising others play preferences or opinions. I am not aiming this just at any one individual, rather reminding the community that without boundaries there is anarchy and nobody wants that. It is my belief that persuasion is far more effective than heavy handed moderating, and after all we have a common interest at heart and working together constructively will always offer greater progress which benefits all. Just so people are aware, I moderate using my eldest daughter as a rule of thumb. She is 12 years of age and anything I would not like her to read I will either delete or edit, although I am just one of the people with the ability to do this. The occasional swear word will slip through as will terms such as carebear or troll, but lets just be considerate of others opinions and what may offend people who “may” be a little more sensitive than you are yourself. We are pretty much all adults here, and those that arent legally are more than capable of acting that way so its far easier if we all abide by the unspoken rules of politeness :D HTH
