Patch 2.71

Patch Notes Thursday, April 1, 2010 - 12:59
  • Implemented a total rehaul of the network code in order to combat desync. Please test and report on whether we have eliminated the problem with this patch or not.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing mobs to become stuck in place after chasing a player.
  • Implemented a prospecting system for mining. The old mining nodes will be removed, and instead, you will have to use the prospecting key ('R') to search areas that look minable for mineral deposits. Once you have identified a mineral deposit, you will be informed of how close to the deposit you are and asked whether you want to start mining. The closer to the center of a deposit you are, the more ore you will be able to take from the deposit. Deposits will randomly respawn different types of minerals over time. The old mining nodes will remain for a day or two until we are done placing
  • Implemented a prospecting system for lumberjacking. By hitting the prospecting key ('R') near a tree, you will be able to check the tree's age (from very young to very old). Trees get a random age on spawn, and advance in age every 24 hours after that. The wood you harvest from a tree will have different bonuses and penalties depending on its age.
  • Armor and clothes equipped will now show up as individual pieces instead of a whole set, and characters wearing neither armor nor clothes will now appear in their underwear.
  • Crafting with a recipe will now always get you some skill as long as the recipe proficiency is less than 100%. However, skill gain will be significantly reduced if you are crafting with a recipe far below you in skill.
  • Merchants will no longer buy items, you will have to sell to the market.
  • The market will no longer pay money for items worth less than 2 pennies.
  • Misc bug and crash fixes.

Major Desync Update

General Wednesday, March 31, 2010 - 21:53

We've been working hard on getting our desync problems fixed. About a month ago, we came to believe that our netcode solution was inherently flawed and began work on revamping it. Tomorrow, we're going to patch in the improved netcode, and we'll need people to log in and test if you experience any desyncing (testers, please see this thread for more information).

If all goes well, this should massively improve the quality of everyone's playing experience. Desync appears to affect everyone to some degree, so if we successfully negate it, we should have less bugs, intermittently broken features and other undesirable side effects of this bug.

So, please help us determine if our fix works after tomorrow's patch so we can check this bugger off! Smile

Patch 2.7

Patch Notes Thursday, March 25, 2010 - 16:52
  • You will no longer be able to gain skill from recipes that are too many points below your current skill, even if you have not received 100% proficiency in that recipe
  • Markets have been implemented in Burgvik and Jardvall. At markets, you can sell goods based on supply and demand. Certain markets will have higher or lower demands for different type of goods (one market may pay premium prices for weapons, etc). A market that has a lot of a certain type of resource or good will pay poor prices for it, while one with none will pay a high price. The size of the town the market is in determines how much goods it will buy before prices start going down. You will also be able to buy anything a player has sold to a market, again with a price based on supply - unless the town's residents buy it first.
  • Your character's skill title will now appear in the list of online players.
  • /safemove is no longer available to players since being randomly teleported to far corners of the world is a thing of the past. /fixme is still available to get you up from under world.
  • The R key will no longer randomly teleport you.
  • Added sounds to many actions.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing distinct items (house keys, items of same quality, etc) to become stacked together.

We've just sent off a new batch of invites to another 750 lucky beta applicants! Congratulations to everyone who got in this round - if you didn't get in, just hold tight, because we'll be doing one of these every week for a while.

Additionally, it is now possible to invite people directly from the Community Forums by clicking on their profile (there will be a button to invite the user), without knowing their email - hopefully, this should make it unnecessary for people to share their email on our forums in beta key giveaways and contests.

See you in Dawntide!
